I told this to a friend a while ago and she thought it was brilliantly simple , so I’m passing it along to you:
Just a bunch of shots of the car being destroyed in various entertaining ways. Driven off a cliff, blown up, shot by a cannon, two of them smashed into each other, etc. Then the voiceover and/ or text comes up to talk about how the car is so affordable, they still came out under budget. Or something similar. Just... emphasizing the fact that it’s a cheap car.

Applicable to no cars available today.
Maybe a used Daewoo

Nah, you want an ad that shows two people. One buys a Mirage, the other... a Crosstrek.
The ad then goes on to show Mirage guy going out for dinner, saving for a home, checking his savings account. Meanwhile, Crosstrek guy eats ramen, pays his 8 years of payments and lives in a small apartment.

emphasizing the fact that it’s a cheap car
The average person doesn’t want to be told they’re buying a cheap economobile . They will feel like they’re driving a penalty box. This is not the heights of recession. It shouldn’t be “Here, we know you’re struggling. Buy this cheap shit that we just destroyed ” They want to be told how much car they are getting for the money, emphasis should be on “Look how many features we are throwing on standard for this starting price* and high MPGs so you can still feel #Premium while saving money ”

This is what happened with the Tata Nano too.
Poor people don’t want to feel poor.
No one bought it.
Imagine being so poor, they have to invent a special kind of car with patents and a world record and what not just so you can afford it. Oof .

This reminds me of a Jetta commercial from a few years back. It was a bunch of shots showing a guy working hard to save up for a Jetta. Then the new lower price is revealed and it cuts to him washing his two brand new Jettas.

There was a Dodge SXT ad that showed a bunch of happy Dodge owners and their friend who bought a BMW and has to get a job delivering pizzas to afford it.

All my good ideas have been done. This is why I have to work in insurance

Poors don't like being reminded they are poor. This has caused alot of riots, revolutions and civil wars in the past.

Yeah but that ad backfired since the BMW driver didn't have a dodge stratus SXT.

That is a fair point, but I also can get behind the idea of not buying more than you can afford. Like Chuck Palahniuk says, "the things you own end up owning you "

A $20k car needs 8 years of car payments? what the ?

I just picked something. Also, yeah 100%. My sister in law (Canada) paid like $33K and is on an 8 year plan. Totally common here.

Hot damn! I forgot Canada cars are expensive. I just paid $30k for mine (not crosstrek) , but only did 60months because the interest rate was unreal.

I’m routinely seeing advertisements for 80 month leases now. It’s insane. I think everyone here in Alberta is so close to going bankrupt, it’s about the only way they can sell things.

Is it still a shopping list when the listed parts are already bought and installed?
It even had the 2.7L V6. It was a nice driving/comfortable/ fun car in stock trim, after minor engine mods/tuning and minor suspension/brake mods, it was an absolute riot to drive. Hate the Stratus all you want, I’d gladly take another over most of what BMW offered at the time.
